For many children, a fresh haircut and a school photo are simple joys. But for some families, these moments can be out of reach. Thanks to support from Grosse Ile Golf & Country Club, The Guidance Center was able to host its first-ever Cool Cuts, Styles, and Smiles event, giving children a confidence boost with free haircuts from local professionals followed by a professional portrait to capture the moment.
This event was born from a simple but powerful realization by a Guidance Center therapist: many families struggle to afford regular haircuts and school photos. By creating a day dedicated to self-care and celebration, the event helped children see themselves in a new, empowered light. One mother of three shared how her daughters carefully picked out their favorite outfits, eager for their special moment. And when one little girl finally got the bangs she had always wanted, she jumped out of the chair, beaming, and exclaimed, “I’m ready for my pictures!” Moments like these show how something as small as a haircut can make a child feel seen, valued, and confident.
Eagles for Children proudly supports The Guidance Center and its mission to nurture development, foster resilience, and cultivate well-being.
