MCHS Family of Services provides individualized treatment, care, advocacy, and permanency to children and families impacted by childhood trauma. We recently received this heartwarming letter from the members of the MCHS Family, and through teary eyes, would love to share the message with you:
"Dear Eagles for Children,
Luke is 14.
He lives on our Redford campus and is part of our Residential Treatment Program.
When you meet Luke, the first thing you’ll notice is he's quiet. He keeps to himself at group events. He walks with his head down, always wearing his headphones. We’ve seen him angry. We’ve seen him shut down. We’ve even seen him cry.
But we had never seen him smile. Until a couple of weeks ago.
Because of a generous community partner, Luke and the other youth in our care spent a day at Michigan’s Adventure. Thrilling rides, water slides, cotton candy, games, laughter, it was a full day of joy. A day where they weren’t just kids in a program – they were just kids.
That night, as Luke stood outside his bedroom door getting ready for bed, he turned to our Residential Director, Tenetia Pulliam, and said something she’ll never forget:
“Ms. P., today was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life.”
This is what your support makes possible.
Not just safe housing. Not just treatment. But moments of magic.
Moments of joy.
Moments that tell a child: You matter. You are seen. You are loved.
From all of us at MCHS, thank you for creating these moments. Thank you for believing in kids like Luke.
With gratitude,
Your MCHS Family"
